About The Event
Session Two Five Day Camp Dates: July 1st-5th 9:00 a.m.-3 p.m.
Capacity: 14 Campers ages K-5th
Calling all lovers of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie books, this camp is for you. Come play outside this summer with a group of like-minded children and create a camp culture of living more connected to the earth. Experience some of the do-it-yourself homesteading skills these books offer by learning to sew bonnets and handkerchiefs with the master seamstress Mary Perisho of Owl and Drum. Make fruit preserves, pickles and biscuits from scratch and study medicinal and edible herbs the way pioneers did with Margaritte Arthrell-Knezek of Under The Canopy. At Little Camp on the Prairie we will investigate the stories in the Little House books by examining some of the ideas these books share including some of their imperfections. We will observe the themes of the Little House on the Prairie by hearing stories about real Pioneer women in Oklahoma who homesteaded by them-selves. Camp will conclude with a celebration of all our new skills and a country style hoedown.
Activities include:
Jam and Pickle preserves
Biscuit making
Basic sewing of bonnets and handkerchiefs
Botanical sketching
Country dancing
