Join Under The Canopy and the Gilcrease Museum this summer in a camp that revolves around the Sun. As we draw closer to the longest day of the year, it is time to celebrate the magic of the sunshine. In The Essence of the Sun Summer Solstice Camp, children will harness the power of the sun’s rays through artistic and naturalist expression. On the lush and forested grounds of the Gilcrease museum, children will spend their camp mornings outdoors. This landscape includes, forest, prairie and a pond all connected with walking trails. They will sketch and study the plants and animal life that surround Gilcrease. In the afternoons, they will move indoors to gather ideas from artists’ interpretations of the sun in the museum collections. They will work in the studio crafting their own creations using the medium of printmaking and assembling science experiments. The camp will end with a museum wide celebration of the sun on Summer Solstice (the 21st) and a sharing of all the sun works campers have created.
